Fourteen of the 16 tools and the whole editor run in your browser, which is why they can be free — your file is never uploaded, so there is nothing for us to store or to charge you for. It is the product, for anything you can finish in one sitting.

Password protect a PDF and Unlock a PDF are the two exceptions, because no browser can do real PDF encryption. Both say so on their own pages. Here is the whole trace, and how to check it yourself.

Yes. Every subscription starts with one. Stripe collects a card and does not charge it — the checkout page shows Total due today $0.00 before you confirm anything — and if you cancel before the trial ends you are never charged at all. There is nothing to refund, because no money moved.

Somewhere for the work to live, and the tools that only make sense once it does. Documents you can come back to, in folders, with version history — every revision kept, who changed what, and a way back to any of them. Search inside them, including inside PDFs we have read for you. Share one by email, leave comments on it, and see somebody else's changes land in your window as they save them.

Then the three things a browser genuinely cannot do on its own: the diagramming and whiteboard tool, true redaction — the text removed from the file rather than covered up, and every earlier version that still had it destroyed with it — and reading a scan, so a photographed page becomes words you can select and edit. Files up to 512 MB instead of 25 MB, and 5 GB kept.

It is a proper one, not a shapes menu. An endless surface with over 400 stencils — AWS, Azure and Google Cloud, network and app architecture, electronics, flowchart, BPMN, floor plans, furniture and people — and connectors that elbow around whatever is in the way rather than through it. Join two shapes and the line stays attached to both; drag either end onto something else; put a bend in by hand and it stays exactly where you put it.

Every stencil is drawn in six looks — modern, futuristic, cyberpunk, 90s, 80s and mid-century — and a shape keeps the one it was placed in, so you can mix them on one board. It exports to SVG, PNG, PDF and .drawio, rendered from the same geometry as the screen, so the file matches what you drew.

It also speaks mermaid both ways: paste a flowchart written as text and it becomes shapes you can move, and any diagram copies back out as mermaid. Flowcharts only — mermaid's sequence, class and state diagrams are refused by name rather than turned into rectangles that would mean nothing.

Yes, and it is the reason the two halves are one product. Open a PDF, choose Shape, and the stencil library opens over the page you are looking at — boxes and arrows over an architecture document, a floor plan over a scanned survey, a flow beside the clause that describes it — while the text underneath stays editable text. One file, one download, nothing pasted in as a flat picture that goes stale.

How diagramming on a PDF works, in detail.

Yes. There is a REST API, and it is part of Pro and Enterprise rather than a separate product with its own bill. Post Markdown or HTML and it is set as real, selectable text; post a picture — a dashboard, a chart — and it becomes a page; post mermaid, an SVG, a .drawio or a Visio file and it becomes an editable diagram; post a PDF and it is imported page by page.

What you get back is a real document in My documents, not a file in a bucket: it opens in the editor, so somebody can annotate it, draw on it, share it and search inside it, and it keeps its version history. Read it back whenever you like as a PDF, PNG, SVG, mermaid or its own JSON model — rendered at the moment you ask, so it always matches the document as it stands, including changes made by hand after your software created it.

Authentication is standard OAuth 2.0 client credentials: make an id and secret on your API access page, choose whether they may read, write or both, and revoke them whenever you like. 2,000 calls a day on Pro, 20,000 on Enterprise. The endpoints, with examples you can paste.

On the free tier, nothing: the work happens in your browser and the file never leaves it, apart from the two password tools named above. With an account, the documents you choose to save are stored so you can come back to them, backed up nightly, and downloadable at any time. Deleting one puts it in a bin for thirty days and then it is gone; closing your account takes everything with it.

Every request is HTTPS, and what we keep is stored encrypted with AES-256 — the key lives somewhere the database does not, so a copy of the database is not a copy of your documents. It also raises the room the account has to work in — more storage, and 20,000 API calls a day rather than 2,000 — with every credential on the account visible to whoever administers it, and revocable by them, because a key outlives the person who made it. No. It is a web page, it works in any current browser, and it works on a phone and a tablet as well as a desktop. Nothing to install, nothing to keep updated, and nothing that stops working when your laptop is replaced.
